Our department is dedicated to leading the charge in preventing, mitigating, and remedying marine pollution through science-based solutions, innovative technologies, and collaborative partnerships. By working together with governments, industries, communities, and stakeholders, we strive to protect marine biodiversity, safeguard human health, and ensure the sustainable use and enjoyment of our oceans for generations to come.”

A Marine Pollution department focus on several key areas such as :

  1. Pollution Prevention and Reduction: Implementing policies, regulations, and initiatives to prevent pollution from entering marine environments, including measures to reduce plastic waste, control industrial discharges, and minimize runoff from agriculture and urban areas.
  • Cleanup and Remediation: Developing and implementing strategies for the cleanup and remediation of marine pollution hotspots, including efforts to remove litter and debris from coastlines, seabeds, and surface waters, as well as the restoration of degraded habitats.
  • Monitoring and Research: Conducting monitoring programs and Egyptian scientific research to assess the extent and impacts of marine pollution, identify emerging pollutants and sources, and inform evidence-based decision-making and policy development.
  • Education and Awareness: Raising public awareness about the dangers of marine pollution, its impacts on marine ecosystems and human health, and the importance of individual and collective action to reduce pollution and protect our oceans.
  • International Collaboration: Engaging in international cooperation and partnerships to address transboundary and global marine pollution issues, including initiatives to strengthen regional cooperation, share best practices, and build capacity for pollution prevention and response.
