Objectives

Addressing and developing solutions to the problems that are facing marine environment in the fields of marine pollution and assessing the negative impact of maritime transport, especially the Suez Canal, the risks of overfishing, climate change, and plastic waste in the marine environment, that’s in addition to reduce the negative impact of marine construction activities. The center also aims to present the systems and mechanisms for the procedures that can help in the reducing or eliminating risks to marine environment, that are resulting from human activities or natural disasters. It mainly concerned with taking the necessary and appropriate measures to control the sources of danger that can cause marine environmental disasters, so the components of this stage consist of the following:

  1. Identify sources of risks on marine environment.
  2. Analyze and evaluate risks on marine environment.
  3. Determine measures and procedures to prevent the effects of risks on marine environment.
  4. Estimate capabilities available to prevent the occurrence of an environmental disaster or reduce its effects.
  5. Set visions, suggestions, and solutions to these problems.
  6. Assess the vulnerability of communities and raise public awareness of the importance of marine environment.
  7. Coordinate and cooperate with authorities in developing policies and legislation.
  8. Develop plans and scenarios to confront these risks.
  9. Analyze and evaluate the results of environmental monitoring of the quality of marine environment (climate – water – soil) to predict environmental disasters likely to happen in short, medium and long term.
  10. Develop training programs for university and school students through summer training programs for students.
  11. Transfer technology, modern programs and plans to researchers through international cooperation with international centers for risk reduction.
