Prof. Amani Badawi
I am a Professor in Marine Geology, working as head of Marine Geology department in National Institute of Oceanography & Fisheries (NIOF), Alexandria, Egypt.
In 2003, I got Ph.D. Degree in Faculty of Geosciences, University of Tüebingen, Germany, (with very good with honors grade).
I have wide experience in marine geology, climate change impact on coastal regions, seabed characteristics, environment impact assessment, and potential threats.
I am in charge of several scientific and environmental projects and researches focusing on the implications of climate change on coastal regions and marine environment of the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Specialized in generating geological modeling through time by correlating paleo/ recent climate for better predicting the most likely future scenario(s), and how we could think global, apply regional and act local, to mitigate the human induced impact on climate changes.
I am highly interested in establish and implement Coastal Zone Management Plan in accordance with the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). This Plan should have strict rules on dealing with all industries. As such, there is a clear need for data pooling and exchange of information on relevant issues between different countries and different organizations.
I am interested in developing and implemented common strategy and efficient action plans to protect marine environment, as well as re-consider the current applied measures and regulations for oil and gas activities, particularly in environmentally challenging areas, due to harsh climatic conditions and/ or sensitive ecosystems as Mediterranean and Red Sea.
